Cory Edwards
by Matt on Apr.07, 2009, under Agency/Head Shots, Portraits
I shot quite a few poses with Hoodwinked! director, Cory Edwards.
We were able to squeeze in several setups with combinations of strobe and natural light. I have to say, I’m quite pleased with the results…

by Matt on Dec.12, 2008, under Fine Art / Stock
Hyper-realism using studio still composited over digital background:
This shot was pulled off in-studio using a Ducati GT1000 stationary on a rear stand. The subject was shot against a white back-lit scrim, then composited into existing ground and sky stock. I lit it using a single B800 fired at the camera from behind the scrim, B800 wide open with a blue gel fired from camera right, SB-800 with a blue gel fired off a gray umbrella from camera left, and a Promaster 5500 wide open with a blue gel fired from below the subject, left of centerline.
Jaron Portrait Session

Little man was patient with his old man long enough for some great moments to be captured…
Patrick Stone Headshot Session
by Matt on Dec.07, 2008, under Agency/Head Shots
I worked with film and television actor, Patrick Stone to put together some fresh headshots. The results looked great:
Ashley Newton Studio Session
by Matt on Dec.07, 2008, under Agency/Head Shots, Fine Art / Stock
My good friend Ashley came by the studio today for a headshot/stock/portfolio/goof session, and I think we captured some great images:
Conga Session
by Matt on Dec.02, 2008, under Fine Art / Stock
I had a thought that illuminating a drummer by firing a speedlight through the head of the drum would have a cool effect. So, I grabbed my Gon Bops quinto and fired away…
Here are the results:
Strobist info:
SB-800 fired from inside the conga. Alien Bees B800 with 30-degree honeycomb fired from above the backdrop. B800 with barn doors fired from the floor in front of the conga. Positions of the lights varied from setup to setup, but all fired except on one shot where only the SB-800 was fired.
Sunrise Shoot for Lu Rain Album Cover
by Matt on Nov.23, 2008, under Agency/Head Shots
Had a great session this morning with singer/songwriter Lu Rain. We shot these for her new album, look for it in the coming weeks on iTunes.
We had good luck with the weather. Clear sky with good color quality on the horizon — it was a bit chilly, but overall I think we were able to get some great results.
Strobist info: I used three basic lighting configs for these images:
- Handheld SB-800 to camera left fired via iTTL cable, sun below horizon for golden hour ambient fill.
- SB-800 fired through lense-mounted ring flash reflector, sun below horizon for golden hour fill.
- Sun above horizon providing rimlight, silver handheld reflector below and to the right, SB-800 fired through a lense-mounted ring flash reflector.
